  Bullion (Stab Stitch Method)

Return to Stitch Samples Index

The Stab Stitch method is recommended. Use Milliners/Straw Needles, #1 for 6 strands, #3 for 3 or 4 strands, #5 or #7 for 1 or 2 strands.

1. Bring needle and thread out at A, down into B and almost out at A again. Hold it at the back.

2. Wrap thread clockwise, not tight. Firstly wrap 3 times, making sure the first wrap sits on the surface of the fabric and all wraps are even. Continue wrapping desired number of times. Adjust the tension of the wraps to make them even by stroking clockwise to tighten, or anti-clockwise to loosen.

3. Hold wraps while pulling the needle and thread through.

4. Secure down into B.
