 Whipped Running Stitch

Return to Stitch Samples Index

Work a foundation row of chain stitch. A second thread is used to whip at regular intervals. Bring the needle to the front, then whip over from right to left then under each stitch, without picking up the background fabric. The whipping stitches should fall neatly over the junction of each stitch. Use a blunt-ended tapestry needle for the second thread to avoid splitting the stitches in the foundation row.
